Putting Master Data In The Hands Of Business Users

As companies increasingly explore master data management (MDM), we often hear inquiries about the usability of master data by business users.

Common questions include: Do business users need to learn and use a separate MDM application? Do they need support from IT to access master data? Can master data fit into the everyday business applications they use for CRM, SFA, ERP, supply chain management, and so forth?

If your organization has ever asked these questions, you should take a look at our new white paper, “Drive Business User Adoption of Master Data.” (more…)

Salesforce.com Customers Recognize Informatica Cloud

Informatica Cloud has been recognized by Salesforce CRM and Force.com customers as the #1 Data Integration application on the AppExchange…for the third year in a row. This award is based 100% on the quality and quantity of our customer reviews, which is why we’re so proud of the recognition.

In 2006 Informatica announced our strategic roadmap for what was then known as “On-Demand Data Integration.” There were to be three phases:

The Value Of Pay-As-You-Go Pricing For Data Integration

I was pleased to see that Informatica has launched Informatica Cloud Express, complete with usage-based pricing.  Cloud Express provides salesforce.com administrators and operations staff the option to schedule and automate bi-directional cloud-to-on-premise integration tasks without coding and without requiring a hardware footprint.

The value of this is pretty straightforward.  Data integration has traditionally been something that’s very complex and costly.  Most spend hundreds of thousands on solutions that become more costly after implementation than during development.  The issues are around the path to good data integration, and the technology required to get you there.

Cloud-based integration, such as Cloud Express, provides the ability to access the integration services you need on-demand.  Moreover, it also provides you with the ability to pay for only the services you need.   This is a wonderful model considering that, while some enterprises do gigs a day in information flowing between on-premise and cloud-based systems, many operate with a much lighter data integration load.  In the past, neither customer had the pay-as-you-go option. Migrating On-Premise Databases To Database.com

I noted in a 2006 blog post that, “in many organizations getting access to information locked away in the data warehouse is still considered to be “in demand” not on demand.” Four years later, the terminology has changed, and adoption of cloud applications and platforms like Salesforce CRM and Force.com has skyrocketed, but for many developers the same challenge persists. Gaining access to corporate databases to build mobile, social or even analytical applications is next to impossible. And if access is granted, too much time and resources are required to implement, manage and maintain software and hardware infrastructure, instead of building innovative applications. That’s what’s so exciting about today’s Database.com announcement.

Getting Ready For Dreamforce 2010

If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, it’s hard not to know that the annual salesforce.com Dreamforce conference is just around the corner. There are ads on NPR. There was even a full page ad congratulating the Giants that offered free keynote and expo passes – nice touch! The conference is being billed as “The Cloud Computing Event of the Year” and with over twenty thousand people expected to be at the Moscone Center from December 6-9th (along with Bill Clinton, Stevie Wonder and a few surprise guests),  I think it will live up to the expectations. A Vision Of Data Integration “Beyond Boundaries”

On Tuesday at Informatica World our Chairman and CEO, Sohaib Abbasi, delivered our conference keynote.  In keeping with the theme of our conference, he outlined a vision for Data Integration that takes us all beyond traditional boundaries – and supported it with three truly profound demonstrations (which I should point out were all run using production software and which I will cover in a separate blog entry).

Take a moment to consider the changing world that we live in today – the internet has changed our lives profoundly.  Today we no longer limit ourselves to using computing to transact business.  We also use computing within our homes, our social lives, for healthcare, to plan vacations and way beyond. Today we talk with one another online and we share experiences online in ways that we have never before witnessed.  (more…)

SaaS And Enterprise Architecture: Key Enablers Of IT Innovation

I recently sat down with Informatica’s CIO Tony Young to discuss his organization’s adoption of software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications like Salesforce CRM. As always Tony, had a lot of wisdom to share on this topic as well as some thoughts on IT innovation and best practices in general. Here’s how he answered the question, “What’s the driver behind cloud computing / SaaS adoption at Informatica?” (more…)
