Big Data, Big Problems: Leveraging Informatica 9.5 to Build an Effective Data Governance Strategy to Meet the Big Data Challenge

Big data is something that I am continually asked about by clients, as the subject continues to gain significant press.  While discussing this topic, I often address it from the angle that bigger data volumes will result in bigger data problems.   Although this seems like a logical premise, the reality of what it really means to an organization and how to plan accordingly is what is often overlooked.  Rather than solve the problem in this blog post, I want to focus on two key considerations from a data governance standpoint, as well as discuss why SSG sees Informatica 9.5 as a core component of a sound data governance strategy that can ensure an organizations’ business decision-making success. What Will the Software Industry Look Like in 3, 5, Even 10 Years From Now?

Recently Informatica’s Chairman and CEO Sohaib Abbasi was asked to provide commentary on the future of the software industry for SIIA’s annual Vision from the Top. The paper includes input from industry leaders from SIIA members such as Eloqua, GoodData, InsideView, Intuit, Marketo, Opsource, QlikView, Symantec and Xactly. In the the paper, he outlines how “the computer industry will be shaped by the current nexus of megatrends:  Cloud Computing, Social Computing and Mobile Computing.”

The 10 Commandments … Or The 7 Deadly Sins?

With much amusement I read a blog entry the other day entitled the 10 commandments of data integration. Of course, I wish I’d thought of it myself.  Great idea which got me thinking about something witty to respond with!  So, how about the 7 deadly sins of data integration!  Lost in the midst of time and as a reminder, the 7 deadly sins are gluttony, lust, greed, envy, wrath, sloth and pride.  So here goes … (more…)
