Cloud Integration Templates – Past, Present and Future

Managing PowerCenter mappings and automating how to build them – it’s something that Naresh Govindaraj, Informatica Cloud’s Senior Director of Product Management, has spent a lot of time thinking about. After eight years in database and data warehousing roles at IBM, Naresh joined Informatica in 1998 to build and manage the metadata repository team. In 2004 he started focusing on data integration embeddability for the first time. Building out the PowerCenter Software Developer Kit (SDK) and the Java Mapping Framework (JMF) ultimately led him to create the concept of Cloud Integration Templates, which is now one of the pillars of Informatica’s integration platform as a service (iPaas) and the Summer 2012 release.

I sat down with Naresh to learn more about Cloud Integration Templates, where they came from and where he sees this innovation going. (more…)

Burning Man for the Cloud Crowd – #DF12 is Coming!

The 10th annual salesforce.com user conference is just around the corner. Ok, calling Dreamforce a user conference just doesn’t feel right to me. If you haven’t experienced it, I guess you could say it’s like Burning Man for the Cloud Crowd. Dreamforce is billed as the “The Cloud Computing Event of the Year.” In their words…“it’s social,” “it’s inspring,” “it’s innovative,” “it’s money,” “it’s breakthrough,” and “it’s red hot.” A lot of hype indeed, but when Marc Benioff is on his game the event always delivers.

If you’re planning on attending the 10th anniversary of Dreamforce in San Francisco on September 18th, I thought I’d share a few useful resources as well as point you to some of the activities the Informatica team has planned for the conference. If you haven’t registered yet, be sure to use our partner promo code for a discount: ECMINFMTCA. There are also free keynote passes available. (more…)

With this release our continued focus is on building out the cloud platform, which is ideally suited for hybrid IT organizations seeking to keep up with the rapid pace of software-as-a-service (SaaS) application adoption, while ensuring the highest possible return on data – whether it’s cloud-based, social, mobile or on premises. This week and next we’ll be posting a series of articles that will focus on the growing recognition of the importance of data integration to cloud computing success as well as highlighting a few of the new features that will be available to all Informatica Cloud customers with the August upgrade. But to get started, here’s a brief overview of what’s new.  (more…)

Analytics are Like Cincinnati Chili

Ever been to Cincinnati? They have amazing chili there. Five-way chili it’s called. They stack toppings like cheese, onions, sour cream, etc. to get one, two, up to four way chili. Then chili with all the fixings served on a bed of spaghetti noodles is five-way chili. It is quite an experience and if you go all in for the five-way, it’s quite a meal. I usually take my chili three-way with cheese and onions. And at the risk of drawing the ire of Cincinnatians everywhere, I do not eat my chili on a bed of spaghetti noodles. Too much food, difficult to eat, impractical. So, how is analytics like chili? I’m going to play safe and say that analytics is not really like chili. But you can have it many different ways—at least five ways. So here I’ll outline just three ways – just how I like my chili – that Informatica OEM partners deliver analytics that embed Informatica data integration technology. (more…)

Introducing Informatica Cloud’s Integration Platform as a Service

In 2006, Informatica announced a strategic roadmap for cloud data integration, which outlined three phases:

  1. Cloud Connectivity
  2. Cloud Integration Services
  3. Cloud Integration Platform

This week we announced Informatica Cloud Spring 2012, which is primarily focused on phase three – evolving to an integration platform as a service. (more…)

Informatica Cloud Customer Success

There’s been a lot written about the importance of customer adoption and success to the software as a service (SaaS) model – there’s even a manifesto and a Bill of Rights! Last month, Informatica Cloud received the Bronze Stevie Award for customer support. One of the drivers for this achievement was not only great front-line customer service from a world-class support organization (they even support trial accounts!), but also the establishment of a customer success team, which is run by Bryan Plaster. I sat down with Bryan to discuss his views on the importance of customer adoption to any cloud computing application, platform or infrastructure initiative, as well as some specifics on how Informatica Cloud approaches customer success. (more…)

I’m pleased to announce that Informatica Cloud has once again been honored by salesforce.com customers with the AppExchange Best of ‘11 Award for Integration. This is the  fourth year in a row that Informatica Cloud has achieved this honor, and our free Data Loader Service continues to be the all-time most popular application on the AppExchange. (more…)

2012 Cloud Integration Predictions – Data, MDM, BI, Platform and IT as a Service

I spent last weekend reading Geoffrey Moore’s new book, Escape Velocity: Free Your Company’s Future from the Pull of the Past. Then on Sunday, the New York Times published this article about salesforce.com: A Leader in the Cloud Gains Rivals. Clearly “The Big Switch” is on. With this as a backdrop, the need for a comprehensive cloud data management strategy has surfaced as a top IT imperative heading into the New Year – How and when do you plan to move data to the cloud? How will you prevent SaaS silos? How will you ensure your cloud data is trustworthy, relevant and complete? What is your plan for longer-term cloud governance and control?

These are just a few of the questions you need to think through as you develop your short, medium and long-term cloud strategy. Here are my predictions for what else should be on your 2012 cloud integration radar.  (more…)

2011 #Cloud Integration Predictions in Review

‘Tis the season, but before I post my 2012 cloud integration predictions, I thought I’d spend a few minutes scoring how I did this year.  Last year I predicted the following:

  1. Cloud adoption will drive two-tier cloud integration strategies
  2. LOB-driven cloud integration projects will lead to strategic MDM initiatives
  3. Cloud integration platforms will emerge
  4. Database.com will gain enterprise adoption
  5. Private Cloud confusion will continue

Here’s my assessment: (more…)
