Real-time Data Sharing Is Key To H1N1 Flu Control
This past Sunday, the Washington Post reported on the availability of the H1N1 flu vaccine with the headline Swine Flu Campaign Waits on Vaccine. Then on Monday, USA Today printed an article entitled U.S. report predicts 30,000 to 90,000 H1N1 deaths. That article covered a report, released Monday by the White House, which was prepared by the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. The article commented that the report calls for the government to intensify efforts “to track infections and hospitalizations”. This was followed up by further coverage including ABC News with the headline White House Warns of Massive Swine Flu Spread. These articles are from the USA, just one of the 170 countries affected by this global pandemic in the four months since it was identified according to the World Health Organization. They highlight the growing concern of how this pandemic is spreading across countries and across the globe.
