Why Did We Acquire Siperian? To Give You A Competitive Edge!

Chris BoormanLast week we completed the acquisition of Siperian – the proven leader in multi-domain MDM.  This is our fourth acquisition in the last 12 months and potentially the single most important acquisition that Informatica has ever done since moving beyond ETL with the acquisition of Similarity Systems in 2006. You can read the press release about Siperian here, and watch a video of my colleague Ivan Chong, General Manager of our Data Quality Business Unit, here.

There has also been a lot of talk about the acquisition in the last few days – such as the commentary from Forrester research analyst Rob KarelVentana Research analyst Mark Smith, or Lorraine Lawson over at ITBusinessEdge.  However, I wanted to give my perspective on why I believe this is important to you, our customers: [Read more]

2010 Predictions From The World Of Data Integration

Informatica 9Chris BoormanIt is that time of the year again. A tough year comes to a close and we all look forward to the coming year with varying degrees of anticipation. What will the new year bring? Before I comment on various predictions, I wanted first to say that I hope 2010 brings you happiness and prosperity. I hope you get what you want and I send good wishes to all - whether friend or competitor! In terms of business and technology, I believe that 2010 is going to be another challenging year. However, there are several trends that I believe will assert themselves strongly in the enterprise. So, here goes with my 2010 predictions:

  1. The Data Driven Enterprise becomes a reality in 2010. Significant change will start occurring as enterprises recognize the value of data and the negative impact on business success coming from decades of Application-centric lock-in. CIO's will turn to architects to remove the IT hairball that threatens their tenure. This IT hairball (a mismash of various application integration technologies) will bring down at least one large enterprise due to operational failure propagating across application integrations. Your Data Is YOUR Business

Informatica 9 Chris BoormanA customer commented on this to me the other day – "your data is your business".  Two meanings in one phrase and eloquently stating the modern world that we live in today.  We have evolved computing in many ways over the last 20 years.  Today, with the launch of Informatica 9, we are evolving the computing model one further time because, quite simply “Your data is YOUR business” and "Your data IS your business".

It’s your organization’s most important proprietary asset. Are you really managing it that way?

The answer for most companies is “No”. [Read more]

Informatica Readies Itself For Launch Day

Informatica 9 Chris Boorman By now I hope that you are all aware that we are launching Informatica 9 on Tuesday.  The countdown has started and preparations are well under way.  When we set out on this journey, we decided to run a virtual launch instead of a traditional event in a hotel somewhere for a small group of followers. We set ourselves the goal of having 9,999 people register and decided to use the power of the internet to share our message.  Within this post I wanted to help you understand a little of what is going to unfold on Tuesday.

Doors open for the live conference at 8:45am Pacific Standard Time.  Currently registrations stand at over 11,000 which far exceeds the target set, and includes people from all over the world.  When you login I will be there to greet you personally.  You can then wander around to any of the conference areas.

There are four main elements to our conference environment – the main keynote, breakout sessions, a resource center and a live chat foyer: [Read more]

Informatica 9 Chris Boorman On November 10th Informatica will be launching Informatica 9.  We are all extremely excited about this release because, quite simply, it is the biggest and most significant release in the history of Informatica.  I say this with respect, but with a strong conviction and total belief.

So why do I say this, and what are we doing?

Why Have Informatica And HP Teamed Up?

Chris BoormanThis week HP and Informatica made a joint announcement about a new strategic agreement between our two companies.

I often hear about such "strategic" agreements and am always left wondering whether if the relationship is more than just the two companies shaking hands and issuing a press release.

Yes! The answer here is profoundly different because this agreement is all about HP embedding and selling the Informatica Platform. It builds on a strong, existing relationship that our two companies have built over a number of years and represents our common goal - namely helping enterprises to drive more value from their data.
