mySOA: Customized, Agile And Sustainable SOA Real-life Experience

It’s not that often that I see such a great article on SOA. Most of the time these types of articles are full of theory or are written by software vendors pushing their own solutions.
It makes much more sense to read from an experienced hands-on expert, as they share their SOA journey. In fact, take a look at William El Kaim’s extensive article entitled MySOA: Agile, Governed and Sustainable.
William calls it mySOA, because SOA is neither one technology, nor a unique methodology. SOA is unique to each company's maturity. Often it can be a very long journey that can be very expensive and limited in success.
What I like the most in this article is that it reflects a pragmatic approach:
- start with what you have
- reuse
- show success
- adopt a sustainable logic
This is a clever approach that successful customers can implement to ultimately deliver the best of a SOA strategy. Reusing complementary technologies may not be popular with some software vendors who would advocate using their full stack technology. This often “locks in” a company which can limit their SOA investments and ultimately their success.
Informatica takes the approach William advocates and provides strong SOA patterns being the foundation of a SOA strategy in providing the enterprise data services layer it needs.
So be responsible and reuse in a sustainable IT approach - your business will benefit from it.
