Do You Have A Foundation For MDM Success?

There is a new whitepaper from Evan Levy of Baseline Consulting available on our website, “Master Data Management – Building A Foundation For Success”. The theme of the paper is about what components make up the foundation of any MDM project – whether a customer hub, a product hub, an operational hub, an analytical hub, one that is bought from a vendor or one that you build yourself. In all cases, there is a common infrastructure that time and again, leading practitioners such as Mr. Levy find to be required.

To summarize, Mr. Levy breaks it down into five core capabilities:

· Data Cleansing and Correction

· Metadata Management

· Access Services

· Data Migration, and

· Identity Resolution

He goes on to provide a recipe for success on how these components are to be used. One of the more interesting points he makes is that many organizations already have most of these capabilities – they just aren’t being applied to their MDM initiatives.

So, the questions you should be asking yourself are, “How much of a foundation for MDM do we already have internally? and “What components do I need to add to give my organization that ability to scale its MDM initiative efficiently, economically, and in line with business requirements?”

It’s a good paper and I think you will enjoy it and get much value from Mr. Levy’s insights.

    The paper was an interesting read. Thanks.

    One of the core issues I have with papers is the lack of focus on architecture and more focus on technologies. The best technologies with a poor architecture will not help you. A good architecture with the best technologies will put your solution on steroids.

    I wrote an article on Identity Resolution being one of the key differentiators for an MDM effort, but its value is multiplied manyfold if it can get access to raw data sets.
