Ah, the Nokia 6160. In 2001, I loved that phone. I could drop it and it still worked. Have you seen one lately? I haven’t in years!
Let’s examine the evolution of the cell phone. If you consider all the necessities added over time, the addition of usable email, text messaging, calendar management even multi-media capabilities, the evolved cell phone aka the “mobile device” is now critical to delivering against ever pressing productivity goals. It’s also used in many different and valuable ways by a wider audience than ever.
The Informatica Platform is akin to the mobile device. 7-10 years ago, you built data marts with the Informatica “ETL cell phone”. It was really good for that type of project and many customers benefited through faster project speeds and reduced project risk. Like the cell phone, the Informatica Platform has added over time major new capabilities like integrated data profiling and data quality, identity search and match, nearly unlimited scale and availability, handling of almost any data imaginable and tools for various participants in the project lifecycle. These capabilities in turn have been successfully used by customers and partners for a wide variety of ever pressing projects like MDM, Operational Data Integration, B2B Data Exchange, and Information Lifecycle Management.
I’d challenge you to Re-Think Informatica. Much like the cell phone, the Informatica Platform has evolved significantly over the course of the last decade and can be applied to a wide spectrum of projects that underpin critical business processes. If you’re a partner, rethink what you know and immerse yourself in the enablement and training available at beINFORMed. If you’re a customer still using the “ETL cell phone”, rethink how you use Informatica and engage your account manager to hear about the business results achieved by your peers in other companies. If you’re a prospective customer, rest assured, the evolution will continue!
