What it Takes to Be a Leader in Data Virtualization!
If you haven’t already, I think you should read The Forrester Wave™: Data Virtualization, Q1 2012. For several reasons – one, to truly understand the space, and two, to understand the critical capabilities required to be a solution that solves real data integration problems.
At the very outset, let’s clearly define Data Virtualization. Simply put, Data Virtualization is foundational to Data Integration. It enables fast and direct access to the critical data and reports that the business needs and trusts. It is not to be confused with simple, traditional Data Federation. Instead, think of it as a superset which must complement existing data architectures to support BI agility, MDM and SOA. (more…)
You Can Eat Your Cake … and Your Fork Too!
Informatica has just met a major milestone in achieving Energy Star Rating certification for our headquarters building in Redwood City, California. If you didn’t know – the national energy performance rating is an external benchmark that helps you assess how efficiently your buildings use energy, relative to similar buildings nationwide. Hitting this milestone generates savings of 400,000 kWh which is about 330,000 lbs in CO2 reduction per year. That seems like a lot of gas when you really think about it. (more…)

Apache Hadoop MapReduce Meets Informatica Data Parsing
Guest blog from Arun C. Murthy, Founder & Architect, Hortonworks
As the framework architects and developers of Apache Hadoop MapReduce, we are always looking for ways to simplify the complex tasks associated with large-scale processing of data. We want users and organizations to spend their time on analyzing their growing data to gain valuable insights, not on menial tasks such as massaging their data for consumption or tediously parsing complex structures in their data. The Informatica HParser technology is extremely valuable in this regard. (more…)
More On The “Achilles Heel Of Cloud Computing – Data Integration”
In March of last year I posted a blog here entitled: The Achilles Heel Of Cloud Computing – Data Integration. “In fact, what currently limits the number of cloud deployments is the lack of a clear understanding of data integration in the context of cloud computing. This is a rather easy problem to solve, but it’s often an afterthought.”
So more than a year later, where are we?
While some progress has been made, many cloud computing implementation projects continue to ignore the value of a sound data integration strategy and the use of the right data integration technology. Most paint themselves into a data quality and data synchronization corner, but give them time. (more…)
Data Integration Goes Mobile And Gets Cloudy At Dreamforce 2011
It was quite a week. According to the Tweets from @benioff, “over 45,000 people gave us a week of their summer to attend Dreamforce 2011” – a truly amazing number and a truly amazing conference. Informatica customers and partners were also out in full force as the topic of data integration was front and center in most of the keynotes and breakout sessions. Informatica announced that it’s now running over 20 billion transactions per month via its multitenant cloud integration service and also introduced a mobile administration and monitoring application that is now available on the Apple App Store.
Our session on Hybrid IT – The Importance of Integration to Salesforce Success was run twice due to popular demand and it was a packed house each time. Special thanks to our great customer speakers from PSA Insurance and Financial Services, Topcon Positioning Systems and Qualcomm. You can check out the slides here and the video on Salesforce YouTube Channel soon. (more…)

Cloud Integration For The Insurance Industry
Today Informatica announced that, “an increasing number of insurance companies rely on Informatica to address their unique challenges of integrating disparate data from a multitude of channels including adjusters, brokers, service providers, underwriters and other related parties.” I thought that two points were worth highlighting here:
- The wide adoption of cloud-based CRM in the insurance industry. Just look at some of the customers highlighted by salesforce.com on their website.
- The wide adoption of cloud-based data integration in this industry. (more…)
