Hybrid IT and the Latest Informatica Cloud Release

In a recent Information Management blog post, Alex Bakker from Saugatuck Technology noted:

“There is an underlying problem facing many, if not most enterprise IT leaders and organizations: these technologies [Cloud, Mobile, Social, Analytics and Integration] have developed much faster than enterprise IT groups and practices have been able to adopt and manage them.”

Sound familiar? Gartner (and others) have referred to the new reality of enterprise IT as Hybrid IT. At Informatica World next month, we have an entire track on this topic.

The good news is a topic that was once considered the “Achilles heel of cloud computing” is increasingly being recognized as the key enabler of cloud success:  integration and data management. With that in mind, Informatica rolled out our Summer 2013 release this week. Here are some highlights and useful resources. (more…)

Five Ways You Can Extend PowerCenter with Informatica Cloud – Part 1

In Ashwin Viswanath’s previous blog post, SaaS Data Integration for SaaS Applications, he explained how SaaS applications are much more dynamic than on-premises business applications with new fields and objects added with just a few clicks. This same agility is required when it comes to integrating SaaS applications, which is why it is important to have a hybrid IT strategy for your data integration architecture. Informatica PowerCenter together with Informatica Cloud can help you get started with such a strategy.

Archiving Salesforce Data

I’ve been approached by a number of customers who are looking to archive data from their Salesforce application.  There are two primary drivers I have heard cited:

  • The need to manage the retention of Salesforce data and easily find and access it for legal eDiscovory
  • Storage cost reduction for data that’s no longer active

Cloud Computing and Master Data Management

In my conversations with different clients and prospects, I have detected both desire and apprehension when the topic of master data management in the cloud is raised. There are two competing pressures. The first is the steady migration of internal capability to cloud-based solutions, in which business process application functions are enabled via off-premise infrastructure. These capabilities are effectively activated through the migration of internal data to the cloud environment. The second is the concern about protection of sensitive data once it has been moved outside the organization’s administrative domain. (more…)

Survey Reports that Cloud Integration is Becoming a Bigger Issue

The consultancy KPMG surveyed nearly 700 executives located around the world, half of whom are already involved with cloud initiatives. Those who dared try their first cloud computing project found out that it’s harder and more expensive than they anticipated.

33 percent of all executives complained about the higher costs for three areas: Implementation, transition and integration. For 31 percent, integrating cloud services with their on-premise applications and systems turned out to be more complex than expected. (more…)

Improve Efficiencies in Test Data Management

According to analysts[1], users spend the majority of the application development lifecycle in development and testing and the least amount of time in quality management and documentation. This is probably not very shocking to anyone in QA or on a testing team. But how much time is actually spent on test data management?  In a recent webinar, more than half of the listeners polled say they spend between 30-40% of their effort on ‘data related tasks.’ (more…)

More Evidence that Cloud Computing is Changing Data Integration

In a recent Sand Hill article, Jeff Kaplan, the managing director of THINKstrategies, reports on the recent and changing state of data integration with the addition of cloud computing.  “One of the ongoing challenges that continues to frustrate businesses of all sizes is data integration, and that issue has only become more complicated with the advent of the cloud. And, in the brave new world of the cloud, data integration must morph into a broader set of data management capabilities to satisfy the escalating needs of today’s business.” (more…)
