What Will the Software Industry Look Like in 3, 5, Even 10 Years From Now?

Recently Informatica’s Chairman and CEO Sohaib Abbasi was asked to provide commentary on the future of the software industry for SIIA’s annual Vision from the Top. The paper includes input from industry leaders from SIIA members such as Eloqua, GoodData, InsideView, Intuit, Marketo, Opsource, QlikView, Symantec and Xactly. In the the paper, he outlines how “the computer industry will be shaped by the current nexus of megatrends:  Cloud Computing, Social Computing and Mobile Computing.”

Here is Sohaib Abbasi’s answer to the question: “What will the software industry look like in 3, 5, even 10 years from now?” (more…)

Webinar: Best Practices for Deploying Cloud ERP within Large Enterprises

Earlier this year Informatica and Netsuite announced a partnership focused on delivering “Two Tier ERP” solutions to large enterprises. According to the press release:

“With a two-tier ERP infrastructure, the existing SAP or Oracle system serves as the hub at the enterprise level and is augmented with more flexible and cost effective cloud ERP solutions, such as NetSuite OneWorld, at the subsidiary or divisional level. Informatica’s cloud data integration solution enables integration between the on-premise enterprise system and cloud divisional systems.”

This deployment model leverages a robust cloud integration strategy to deliver the flexibility and agility of a SaaS ERP solution to divisions and subsidiaries, allowing them to benefit from accelerated consolidation, real-time visibility into performance, local flexibility and control. (more…)

Informatica Cloud Wins Best Cloud Management CODiE Award

I spent last week at the annual SIIA All About the Cloud Conference in San Francisco. The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) “is the principal trade association for the software and digital content industries.” They are also the organization that gives out the annual CODiE Awards, “the industry’s only peer‐review awards program, acknowledge innovation and excellence for products and services in the business software, digital content and education technology industries.”

I’m pleased to be able to say that Informatica Cloud has been recognized this year as the “Best Cloud Management Solution.”

Cloud Slam ’11: The Importance Of Cloud Integration For Hybrid IT

Cloud Slam ’11 is the first hybrid event that I’ve been a part of – in other words, its both virtual and live. Naturally I’ll be doing a session focusing on the hybrid reality of today’s IT organization and the importance of cloud data integration.

I even have a few free passes if you’re interested in attending this or other sessions. (Sorry, it’s first come first serve.) (more…)

Cloud Application Adoption From An Enterprise Architecture Perspective

Informatica’s CIO Tony Young recently noted that when it comes to adopting cloud-based (SaaS) applications, “you must have a governance and architecture model to ensure appropriate decisions are made.” Given my prediction that in 2011, “IT organizations will be reorganizing and realigning to adapt to the new realities of cloud computing,” I thought it would be a good idea to dig a little deeper into the topic of cloud governance (or as industry analyst Jeff Kaplan calls it, “cloud control”). I sat down with Kristin Kokie, Senior Director of Enterprise Architecture at Informatica to discuss this important topic. (more…)

Salesforce.com Customers Recognize Informatica Cloud

Informatica Cloud has been recognized by Salesforce CRM and Force.com customers as the #1 Data Integration application on the AppExchange…for the third year in a row. This award is based 100% on the quality and quantity of our customer reviews, which is why we’re so proud of the recognition.

In 2006 Informatica announced our strategic roadmap for what was then known as “On-Demand Data Integration.” There were to be three phases:

Cloud Integration: Who’s Line (Of Business) Is It Anyway?

I recently sat down with a couple of Informatica Cloud customers to learn more about their general experiences with data integration delivered as an on-demand service. I was particularly interested in these two implementations, as both projects were led and ultimately managed directly by the line of business. Tony Young recently pointed out that, “the cloud is real” and most CIOs clearly have their heads in the clouds. Some of the points made by these software-as-a-service enthusiasts’ help to explain why the cloud is even more appealing outside of IT and why more and more organizations are adopting “two tier cloud integration strategies in 2011.” (more…)

2011 Cloud Integration Predictions: Hybrid Platform Adoption, Private Cloud Confusion

In my last post I scored my 2010 cloud integration predictions. I’d say it was a solid B. While the spate of acquisitions in the market helped shine a light on the opportunity for data integration delivered as an on-demand service, I’d characterize 2010 as a year of line of business-driven cloud integration adoption. My prediction is that 2011 will be the year of “hybrid everything” and IT organizations will be reorganizing and realigning to adapt to the new realities of cloud computing. Here are my 2011 cloud integration predictions. (more…)

Cloud Integration Predictions in Review

As is the custom, before I dive into my predictions for next year, I thought I’d look back and see how I did with my 2010 cloud integration predictions. Last year I predicted that:

1)  There will be an increased need for best-of-breed cloud data integration solutions. I also predicted that we’d see an emergence of online marketplaces that allow you to purchase prepackaged integration services.

Results: In Loraine Lawson’s recent Data Integration predictions post, she noted, “this year, integration seems to have shifted from a liability to an asset for the cloud.” Another publication referred to cloud integration as, “the capability that will drive mainstream Cloud adoption.” Clearly the importance of data integration to cloud computing success has been recognized. I believe 2010 was the year we crossed the chasm.

Bring on the tornado!
