Hybrid IT and the Latest Informatica Cloud Release
In a recent Information Management blog post, Alex Bakker from Saugatuck Technology noted:
“There is an underlying problem facing many, if not most enterprise IT leaders and organizations: these technologies [Cloud, Mobile, Social, Analytics and Integration] have developed much faster than enterprise IT groups and practices have been able to adopt and manage them.”
Sound familiar? Gartner (and others) have referred to the new reality of enterprise IT as Hybrid IT. At Informatica World next month, we have an entire track on this topic.
The good news is a topic that was once considered the “Achilles heel of cloud computing” is increasingly being recognized as the key enabler of cloud success: integration and data management. Announcing Informatica Cloud Spring 2013
On Wednesday we announced our latest cloud integration release – Informatica Cloud Spring 2013. It’s a major step forward in terms of breadth and depth for our software as a service (SaaS) solution. Why, you ask?
- Didn’t all of our cloud integration customers get upgraded to the Winter release in November?
- Didn’t we just broaden into cloud-based master data management (MDM)?
- Don’t we have 3-4 releases per year?
Well, yes…but…there are a few aspects to today’s announcement that I think are particularly noteworthy. Here’s a summary.
Salesforce.com Recognizes Informatica for Cloud Data Integration
This week we got the news that for the fifth year in a row, Informatica Cloud has won the 2012 Salesforce.com AppExchange Customer Choice Award. Informatica Cloud Integration for Salesforce was recognized as the winner in the very crowded IT and Administration category, which includes administration and IT, data cleansing, integration, IT management and other applications.These awards are based on the number and quality of customer reviews on the AppExchange. 2013 Cloud Data Management Predictions
Ok, I know it’s a little late to post 2013 technology predictions, but with so many good ones published already, I figured I’d sandbag a little and not only post a few of my own but also share a few of my favorites so far. For me, it starts with Mary Meeker’s Internet Trends presentation. 2013 is going to be a year of “re-imagining” enterprise software, from social, to mobile, to cloud, to Big Data and Analytics.

Cloud Integration Predictions – The Year in Review
For the past few years I’ve been posting my cloud integration predictions. It’s always interesting to look back to see what transpired and evaluate where I scored well and where I was off base. My 2012 cloud integration predictions centered around Data as a Service, Master Data Management, Business Intelligence and enterprise IT adoption of all flavors of cloud computing. Informatica Advances Cloud Integration and Data Quality
Informatica Cloud Winter 2013 has arrived. Yesterday I attended Informatica’s first annual Cloud Connect conference in San Francisco, which was followed by a Dreamforce 2012 kick-off party sponsored by our partners Astada, Covisint, MicroStrategy and Zyme. It was a busy day, with a keynote from Juan Carlos Soto focused on the three pillars of our cloud computing product strategy, a deep-dive technical update and Ask the Experts stations for one-on-one interaction with product management. We also announced the winners of our 2012 Cloudy Awards! Congratulations to all of the winners! I’ll post some pictures next week. (more…)
Cloud Integration Templates – Past, Present and Future
Managing PowerCenter mappings and automating how to build them – it’s something that Naresh Govindaraj, Informatica Cloud’s Senior Director of Product Management, has spent a lot of time thinking about. After eight years in database and data warehousing roles at IBM, Naresh joined Informatica in 1998 to build and manage the metadata repository team. In 2004 he started focusing on data integration embeddability for the first time. Building out the PowerCenter Software Developer Kit (SDK) and the Java Mapping Framework (JMF) ultimately led him to create the concept of Cloud Integration Templates, which is now one of the pillars of Informatica’s integration platform as a service (iPaas) and the Summer 2012 release.

Burning Man for the Cloud Crowd – #DF12 is Coming!
The 10th annual salesforce.com user conference is just around the corner. Ok, calling Dreamforce a user conference just doesn’t feel right to me. If you haven’t experienced it, I guess you could say it’s like Burning Man for the Cloud Crowd. Dreamforce is billed as the “The Cloud Computing Event of the Year.” In their words…“it’s social,” “it’s inspring,” “it’s innovative,” “it’s money,” “it’s breakthrough,” and “it’s red hot.” A lot of hype indeed, but when Marc Benioff is on his game the event always delivers.
