I’m always fascinated to learn about the innovation and value our customers drive with Informatica products. Last week at Informatica World, I met with Tim Leonard, CTO at U.S. Xpress Enterprises. Tim shared with me how they were using iPad apps with Informatica Data Quality to provide reliable data for accurate decision making and saving millions in just one year.
In particular, U.S. Xpress was lacking reliable data on details such as the trucks’ location and idle time at the stopping point, which made it impossible to report accurately on vehicle movements and bring the truck idle time down. Considering the scale of the truck fleet in the thousands, even an improvement in truck idle time of four percent meant millions in savings. The root cause of the problem was unreliable customer and location data, which led to trucks being dispatched to the wrong customer location or unnecessary wait times due to incorrect location data.
U.S. Xpress implemented Informatica Data Quality to provide accurate global matching of customer records as well as address cleansing. This allowed U.S. Xpress to identify duplicate customer data across different truck locations via locale-aware prebuilt data matching rules, and enriched data with global address cleansing and integrated geo-coding. But U.S. Xpress didn’t stop there. They developed iPad apps on top of Informatica Data Quality, and delivered business dashboards and scorecards to the key decision makers in the field giving them trusted insight into truck idle time at their finger tips.
Furthermore, the iPad apps deliver pro-active insight into “hot zones” down to the actual locations allowing decision makers to take corrective action early. In fact, after deploying the solution, U.S. Xpress saw immediate benefits by being able to cut idle time from the high eighties to about 50 percent, getting an ROI in just three months.
Lastly, U.S. Xpress leverages their iPad apps combining Informatica Data Quality’s global address cleansing with geo-coding, allowing teams to immediately identify where a truck is located, where it’s traveling to and from and the amount of idle time, leading to optimized idle time as well as improved customer service.
