Informatica and Cloudera Partner to Support the DataKind “Data-for-Good Movement”
As the head of HR at Informatica, I see many heart-warming examples of our employees giving back to their communities, all over the world. The team at Informatica has an action-oriented approach to service and a passion for making a positive impact, both locally and globally.
Today, it’s my pleasure to write about a partnership we just announced – one that combines our passion for giving back with our passion for data. Informatica and our friends at Cloudera will join forces to support DataKind, a nonprofit organization dedicated to tackling humanity’s greatest challenges with data science. DataKind connects NGO and government agencies to volunteer data scientists, who then contribute pro bono hours to solve social sector issues.
I was impressed when I read this: Since 2011, DataKind has mobilized over 1,000 unique data scientists to contribute $1.5 million in pro bono services to organizations like the Red Cross, the World Bank and the United Nations. This speaks to the power of data and to the character of the people who work in our industry.
In this partnership, Cloudera and Informatica will provide the funding to grow DataKind’s “Data-for-Good Movement” which is all about applying the potential of data to make a truly positive difference in the world. Over time, we’ll expand our relationship with DataKind and find opportunities where our data professionals can volunteer their skills and expertise.
And, knowing our employees, we’ll have more volunteers than DataKind can use!
It’s not every day that one can blog about entering a partnership that very well could make the world a better place. I am looking forward to seeing what we’ll achieve together.
